Stump VS Woods - Cage Championships 40

By Matt Frazier | Knuckle Junkies

When Chris Heatherly steps into the cage in Saturday's Cage Championships 40, it will be only his fourth professional fight.

With 21 wins as an amateur and another three as a pro, he's no stranger to the winner's circle. But a win on Saturday will be no simple task. The undefeated welterweight from Berger's MMA will be facing his stiffest test to date in the veteran Salvador Woods.

Heatherly has relied on his striking up until this point, having never been tested on the ground, but this multi-time NAGA and BJJ Open winner has what it takes should the fight hit the mat.

Woods has fought a who's-who of St. Louis MMA: Tyron Woodley, Michael Chandler, and Steve Berger to name a few. He's also faced off with Strikeforce's No. 1 lightweight contender, Pat Healy. It's easy to say, Woods is no stranger to the big fights.

The two Illinois wrestlers crossed passed many moons ago in the wrestling circle. Woods, a senior, got the better of the freshmen Heatherly then. Now with the two fighters at different points in their MMA career, it will be interesting to see if the young dog can teach the old one some new tricks or if history will repeat itself.
