Shamrock FC: 278 - Preview

Shamrock FC is back at Lumiere for the second time within a month for Shamrock FC 278 - Xtreme 9. Boxing, kickboxing, and at least one MMA match will be on the card that features a little something for everyone.

Headlining the event is a fight between two welterweights badly in need of a win. The HIT Squad's Jordan Dowdy is coming off a summer loss at Bellator 157 to Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconcelos. Dowdy's opponent, Kyle Kurtz (6-3) is looking to rebound after a hard fought loss to UFC-vet Bobby Voelker in September. There is mutual respect between the two 170 pound fighters and on paper this could be a fight of the year nominee. Kurtz is big and tough whereas Dowdy is sharp and well-conditioned.

Local boxing standout Raymond Handson looks to continue to climb the ladder, he'll face Troy White. Handson will look to go 4-0 with a victory over White, who lost in August to Joel Blair, someone Handson defeated handily earlier in the year. White sports a 5-3-1 record and is the toughest opponent Handson has faced to date.

Big boys Jacob Zogg and Jordan Maxey will mix it up. The four-time Illinois Golden Glove winner, Maxey defeated Charles Rodgers in August via unanimous decision and showed no signs of ring rust. Zogg looks to tighten up his stand-up with his first boxing match, having competed primarily in MMA. Ironically enough, Zogg lost to Rodgers at Rumble Time in 2014 in an MMA match in Zogg's professional debut.

Rounding out the professional main card is a match-up between Juzzton Hill and seasoned amateur boxer Eean Chappell.

On the all-kickboxing undercard, Matt Ray will face Brandon Breault from Arnold BJJ. The two are evenly matched and could make for an exciting back-and-forth bout on the main event of the prelims.

Keep an eye on two talented fighters from Watson Martial Arts, Colin Parr and Luis Felipe. Felipe recently scored a undercard MMA win over an undersized Damian Newman at RFA in September and looked sharp in doing so. Parr made quick work of Jake Willyard at Shamrock 277 with a textbook armbar.

In women's action: Lillie Storye will face Marye Dalton, and Adriene Brusco faces Phillina Zimmerman.
