Rumble in the Park - Event Preview

By Matt Frazier | Knuckle Junkies

The old adage, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again, holds true as Rumble Time Promotions will take another shot at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

One year to the date, Rumble Time - in partnership with Titan FC - had a scheduled pro-am that was ultimately cancelled due to inclement weather. In the main event was slated to be Ultimate Fighter contestant and current UFC welterweight Zach Cummings as well as a card that featured several familiar names from around the area including Jake Collier, Dustin Jacoby, Zach Freeman, Alp Ozkilic, and Ray Grindstaff among others.

Rumble Time returns Saturday with an all amateur card featuring some of the top prospects in the region. A portion of the proceeds will go to Responder Rescue, a St. Charles-based organization that provides assistance to area first responders that become in need.

The main event features Jason Powell from St. Charles MMA taking on Dan Busch. Powell often fights under his potential and if he can figure things out on Saturday it could be a very long night for Busch. Busch has fought some tough guys like Ian Butler and Mike Green, and will need to be in top form to defeat the well-rounded Powell.

The area's top bantamweight, Damian Newman, will look to tighten up some aspects of his game before the inevitable pro turn. He'll compete in a K1 match against LC Hamid from Sevencorner Road. The22 year-old Hamid has shown tons of potential, and once he sharpens his submission game, he'll be a force to reckon with in MMA. Both fighters can give as well as they receive, so this should be exciting.

Another intriguing match-up is Tyler Hubbs and Christian Santana. Hubbs is part of the new generation of young fighters at St. Charles MMA. He has very good jiujitsu and quickly improving hands, something he displayed in his last fight where he dropped Jared Bischoff before finishing with an armbar. Santana has a win over Hubb's teammate Quentin Loper, and has yet to taste defeat as an amateur.

This will be an outdoor event and if the weather cooperates, it should be a fun night.
